1.) †, Extinct: When the dagger symbol is placed immediately after the scientific name, this indicates that the species in question has been designated as being extinct. An example of this is Psephurus galdius †. The symbol is sometimes written before the scientific name as well in that case it would look like this, †Psephurus galdius. The symbol immediately following the scientific name indicates that this species has went extinct.
